"Our father was a man of very modest means, but was always able to pay his bills and fulfill his obligations, a fact of immense pride and absolute necessity to him. He came from a large farm family in Sweden and had almost nothing when he immigrated to the United States in the early part of the 20th century. He married my mother when they were both young and poor. But, they had dreams, worked very hard and they managed to buy a small business and make it prosper.
